Another box jellyfish, Chiropsalmus quadrigatus, is generally less common than Chironex fleckeri, although it may outnumber them on Cairns to Port Douglas beaches. When this happens, a shark may take a misaligned bite of human skin, and then retreat when they realize that this was not, in fact, a seal or other item on their prey list.
